Charlotte After Dark: Haunted History & Hidden Legends Tour Step into the shadows and discover the chilling secrets that lie beneath the Queen City’s polished exterior. Our Charlotte After Dark walking tour takes you through the city’s most storied streets, where history, mystery, and ghostly legends come to life. We begin at the regal Queen Charlotte Statue, where her gaze has overlooked the city's transformation for centuries—but even royalty can't escape the whispers of the past. From there, we venture into Old Settlers’ Cemetery, one of North Carolina’s oldest burial grounds, where early leaders rest—and some say, still linger. Among them is the infamous “Devil Charlie” Polk, whose violent past continues to haunt the city’s folklore. Next, we’ll visit the historic First Presbyterian Church, a striking landmark with its own spiritual energy, before exploring the eerie legacy of The North Carolina Medical College and St. Peter’s Hospital, both linked to tales of spectral patients and long-forgotten medical practices. The tour winds through Charlotte’s 4th Ward, where Victorian charm masks a darker past. Hear the chilling tale of Conrad Reed, the young boy whose discovery sparked the nation’s first gold rush—and may have brought with it a curse. We’ll pass the shadowy Bootlegger House, once a hub of illicit activity during Prohibition, and hear stories of hidden tunnels, secret deals, and spirits—both liquid and ghostly. You’ll stand before the elegant McNinch House, a former mayoral mansion steeped in mystery, and the Tryon House Apartments, where residents have reported strange occurrences that defy explanation. At St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Charlotte’s oldest surviving church building, the veil between the living and the dead feels thin. Then it's on to the atmospheric McGlohon Theatre, housed in a former church where performers and patrons alike have witnessed the inexplicable. Our journey continues to the grand Dunhill Hotel, where whispers of ghostly guests echo through its historic halls. We’ll also stop by the Carolina Theater, a long-abandoned venue currently being restored—though not all of its former occupants may have left. Finally, we end the night (and maybe a ghost story or two) at Rí Rá Irish Pub, located in a restored 19th-century building shipped brick-by-brick from Ireland. With its rich history and lingering spirits, it’s the perfect place to toast to the mysteries of Charlotte after dark.
